Key Digital Tools I Use As A Traditional Artist
(Note: My experience is based on Sketchbook app, I paint digitally in my mobile without any hustle.)
- Intro :
Personally, I prefer using digital tools that feel similar to traditional ones. It encourages me to apply confident strokes and gives me a clear direction when starting a digital painting. Like I would with a physical canvas, I begin by selecting a few brushes and colors, then adjust the composition, sketch out markings from my brushes, and apply paint directly—staying true to the traditional painting process.
- Brushes :
All the digital brushes are impressive, but I particularly love the fan brush and flat bristle brush because of their unique texture qualities. Their physical appearance differs from other brushes, which helps me apply different textures. I use these differences in textures to simplify my painting process by separating structure, visualizing the composition, and shaping the overall layout of the piece.
- Brush Settings :
Brush settings refer to the properties that affect how a brush behaves—such as pressure, flow, strength, and especially size.
I often experiment with these settings to gain better control and create more stable, expressive strokes. Generally, I intend to keep those values below 50 for much smoother strokes.
- Color Palette:
This tool is essential for every artist. I usually begin by selecting a base color and then move to the gradation section for more precise tones. Most of the time, I manually pick colors from the color wheel, which allows me to be more intentional with color choices.
I use these basic tools and rely on my skills to paint every time. The results are on the gallery page. Let me know what you think about it in the comments below.
Thank You !
